During a special Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on “Big Tech and the Online Child Sexual Exploitation Crisis” on Wednesday, Texas Senator Ted Cruz unloaded on Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg for allowing users on Instagram to see images of child sex abuse —even after a warning screen is displayed.
“Instagram also displayed the following warning screen to individuals who were searching for child abuse material,” Cruz starts, before reading the warning screen. “‘These results may contain images of child sexual abuse’ — and then you gave users two choices: ‘Get resources or see results anyway,'” Cruz continued.
“Mr. Zuckerberg — what the hell were you thinking?”
Zuck scrambles to explain “the science” behind the choice, but Cruz isn’t having it.
“In what sane universe is there a link for ‘see results anyway?'”

The media only ever talks about CSE on X even though it’s a much bigger problem on Instagram.
They don’t actually care about CSE.
They’re just terrified of free speech on X. pic.twitter.com/rCbwVF7nMa
