Speaker of the House Mike Johnson briefly spoke with reporters on the Hill on Wednesday where he confirmed that the battle to impeach DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is far from over.

“What happened yesterday with the vote on Secretary Mayorkas? Why bring that to the floor if you didn’t have the votes and will you hold another vote on impeachment?” one reporter asked Johnson on the Hill Wednesday afternoon.

“Last night was a setback but democracy is messy. We live in a time of divided government. We have a razor-thin margin here and every vote counts,” Johnson says. “But we have a duty and a responsibility to take care of this issue. We have to hold the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security accountable. Mayorkas needs to be held accountable. The Biden Administration needs to be held accountable.”

“We will pass those articles of impeachment. We’ll do it on the next time round.”

Meanwhile, conservatives on X are encouraging Americans to contact the three GOP holdouts who sabotaged the impeachment attempt.

“TIME TO NAME AND SHAME!” popular account Libs of TikTok posted. “The 3 RINOS who voted with Democrats against impeaching Mayorkas: Rep. Tom McClintock – (202) 225-2511 Rep. Ken Buck – (202) 225-4676 Rep. Mike Gallagher – (202) 225-5665 The vote will be reconsidered next week. They must vote YES! Mayorkas has arguably done more damage to this country than anyone else in elected office. His department is responsible for border security and they’ve neglected to do their jobs. IMPEACH MAYORKAS!”
