According to a recent CNN poll, former President and 2024 GOP frontrunner Donald Trump is ahead of GOP opponent Nikki Haley and President Joe Biden.
49% of registered voters would back Trump; 45% would back Biden, according to CNN/SSRS.
Here are how the results, released Thursday, break down:
- 5% said they would vote for someone else.
- 62% say they disapprove of the way Biden is handling his job as president, compared to 38%, who say they approve.
- 66% say they don’t believe Biden deserves to be reelected, compared to 34% who say he does.
- 59% say they have an unfavorable opinion of Biden, compared to 34% who say they view him favorably.
- 55% say they have an unfavorable opinion of Trump, compared to 39% who say they view him favorably.
- 70% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents say they would most like to see Trump win the Republican nomination for president, compared to 19% who say they favor Nikki Haley. Eight percent said someone else.
- 52% of registered voters say they would support Haley in a matchup with Biden, who was backed by 39%.
- Seven percent said they would back another candidate.
The poll, conducted Jan. 25-30, surveyed 1,212 registered voters. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4%.
