According to multiple reports, President Biden is readying an executive order to restrict asylum seekers at the border. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson Says it’s too little, too late.

“President Biden has engineered a wide-open southern border and is now trying to convince Americans that he wants to address the chaos he created. The American people know better. He intentionally created this crisis and an executive order won’t change that,” Johnson said on X.

The New York Times reported on the details of the order Monday morning.

From The New York Times:

The order would allow border officials to prevent migrants from claiming asylum and rapidly turn them away once border crossings exceed a certain threshold. Government officials earlier this year discussed allowing Mr. Biden to shut down the border if there were an average of 5,000 border crossings in a week, or 8,500 in a single day, but those involved in the negotiations cautioned that the threshold was not finalized and could change. White House officials have been focused on a trigger that would empower Mr. Biden to shut down the border.
