Time to Go, Joe! Senior House Democrat Says Biden 'Not the Best Person' to Carry Dem Message, Needs to Step Aside [Watch]

By Eric Bolling Staff

US President Joe Biden speaks about the protests over Israel's war against Hamas in Gaza that have roiled US college campuses, in the Roosevelt Room of the White House in Washington, DC, on May 2, 2024. Biden broke his virtual silence Thursday on the nationwide Gaza campus protests, saying the US was not authoritarian but insisting "order must prevail." The White House remarks comes after hundreds of police cleared a sprawling protest encampment overnight at the University of California, Los Angeles, tearing down barriers and arresting students. Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA), the highest-ranking Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, told CNN’s Jake Tapper Monday night that it’s time for President Biden to step aside.

“Well, look, I think he should step aside. I think it’s become clear that he’s not the best person to carry the Democratic message,” Smith told Tapper on The Lead. “And here’s the thing. We have an incredibly strong message and record to run on.”

Smith said a Kamala Harris candidacy may be better for Democrats.

“Personally, I think Kamala Harris would be a much better, stronger candidate and because she is, constitutionally, is second. That’s the way it’s supposed to work,” he said.

“Like I said, he gets the nomination, I’m all in. Right now, just like in 2020, when everyone said ‘Joe Biden’s the guy, let’s get behind him,’ I think we need a different choice if we’re going to be able to beat Donald Trump. And that’s what matters. It’s not about Joe Biden. It’s not about individuals. It’s about making sure we move this country in the right direction going forward,” Smith said.

Smith shared the following message on X:

“I’m calling on President Biden to step down. If President Biden continues his campaign, it would be a mistake. President Biden has shown strong leadership, but it’s clear he is no longer the best candidate to meet the demands of the office.”
