The national debt has hit $34 trillion dollars for the first time in U.S. history….

According to a report from The Hill, the national debt surpassed $34 trillion for the first time last week —just more than three months after first crossing the $33 trillion mark.

From The Hill:

The latest milestone for the national debt comes as Congress faces even more spending deadlines as it returns in the new year after narrowly averting government shutdowns twice last fall.

Under a stopgap measure passed in November, funding for four federal agencies is set to lapse Jan. 19, while funding for the rest of the government will expire two weeks later, on Feb. 2.

The growing debt pile has repeatedly been a source of tension in recent battles over government funding, including in last spring’s standoff over the borrowing limit.

Conservatives on X reacted to the news of the skyrocketing debt; many called for getting spending under control.

“This. Is. Not. Sustainable. The national debt the day the former President was sworn in was $19.9T. When our current President was inaugurated, the debt was: $27.7 T – about $7.8 trillion higher. With 1 year left to go, our debt has now crossed $34T! $1T in the last 3mo!” Rep. Nancy Macy (R-SC) shared.

“I posted a few months ago how our national debt hit a historic $33 TRILLION. Here we are just a few months later and we’ve now hit $34 TRILLION in debt. These piles and piles of debt that we’ve racked up over the years are an albatross around every American citizen’s neck. And, yet, Democrats only want to spend more and more,” Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert posted on X.

Florida Senator Rick Scott highlighted how little time it took Joe Biden to add another trillion to the debt.

Meanwhile, RNC Research shared a supercut of Biden claiming he cut the debt.

“The national debt has topped $34 trillion for the first time ever. Here’s Biden claiming he “literally” cut the debt “in half,” “by $1.7 billion,” “by $7 billion,” “by $1.4 trillion,” and “by $1.7 trillion.” (He’s lying — he has added to the debt)”
