U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan sided with the prosecution on Monday, slapping Donald Trump with a partial gag order in his case involving Jan. 6.
From CNBC:
Trump and other parties in the case are barred from making any public statements targeting special counsel Jack Smith and his staff, as well as court personnel, U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan in a court hearing.
Trump is also prohibited from posting or sharing statements about the role and testimony of potential witnesses in the case. Trump stands accused of trying to overturn his 2020 election loss with the aid of Republican lawmakers.
While Trump will still be allowed to criticize potential witnesses in vague terms, he cannot make statements about their involvement in the case, Chutkan said, using former Vice President Mike Pence as an example.
Trump reacted to the ruling in an email to supporters.
“A gag order has officially been imposed on me at the request of Joe Biden,” Trump said in the email. “While I am restricted in what I can say right now, here is my message to the American people: MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
“The Biden Administration can gag me but they can never gag the American people.”
