Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) has responded to the news that President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, would be pleading guilty to multiple federal charges but would not be facing any jail time, saying it was an example of cronyism, camouflage, and corruption.

“Look, today is a really sad day for the rule of law and every American who cares about justice ought to be outraged. What happened today is three things at once. Number one, it is cronyism. Number two, it is camouflage. And number three, it is corruption,” Cruz said.

“The reason we’re talking about this is not that Hunter Biden is some troubled soul with substance abuse issues. It is that he sold access to his father, who was vice president of the United States, who is president of the United States, and the evidence of corruption of Joe Biden personally making millions of dollars is growing and growing and growing and the Biden Justice Department is doing everything they can to cover up,” Cruz later added.

Cruz’s comments came after The Washington Post reported that Hunter Biden had reached a plea deal with federal prosecutors as part of a multi-year long investigation. Hunter is reportedly going to plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax crimes and admit the facts of a gun charge.

In the deal, which was negotiated in a deal with Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss, Hunter will plead guilty to failing to pay about $100,000 in taxes for 2017 and for failing to pay a similar amount in 2018.

Hunter is not expected to face any jail time and will be given two years of probation.

The president’s son is also expected to enter a diversion program after admitting the illegal purchase of a firearm in 2018. The gun charge could be revoked from his record after completing the diversion program, according to sources who spoke with the Post.

“The defendant has agreed to plead guilty to both counts of the tax Information,” the prosecutors said in a letter sent Tuesday. “The defendant has agreed to enter a Pretrial Diversion Agreement with respect to the firearm Information.”
