Joe Biden’s DHS Secretary isn’t offering protection to 2024 Democrat opponent RFK Jr. —USSS protection is a common safety precaution for any candidate running for president.

Kennedy is currently polling at about 11% and continues to gain ground on Biden; he shared the Secret Service news on Twitter with community notes provided context.

Since the assassination of my father in 1968, candidates for president are provided Secret Service protection.  But not me,” Kennedy tweeted. “Typical turnaround time for pro forma protection requests from presidential candidates is 14-days.  After 88-days of no response and after several follow-ups by our campaign, the Biden Administration just denied our request.  Secretary Mayorkas: “I have determined that Secret Service protection for Robert F Kennedy Jr is not warranted at this time.”  Our campaign’s request included a 67-page report from the world’s leading protection firm, detailing unique and well-established security and safety risks aside from commonplace death threats.

Community notes chimed in: “Secret Service protection must be provided to major candidates within 120 days of the general election. Major candidates are determined by a committee consisting of the House Speaker, House Minority Whip, Senate Majority & Minority Leaders, and another member of their choice.”

Twitter users were quick to point out that, while RFK goes unprotected, Hunter Biden has a taxpayer-funded motorcade to drive him to court.
