There’s been a major escalation in the Middle East…
According to a Fox News report, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated by an airstrike in Tehran on Wednesday while attending the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s new president. Now, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is vowing to take revenge on the parties responsible.
“The criminal and terrorist Zionist regime martyred our dear guest in our home and made us sad, but it also prepared a harsh punishment for itself,” Khamenei said on his website.
“Martyr Haniyeh was willing to sacrifice his honorable life in this dignified battle for many years,” he added. “He was prepared for martyrdom and had sacrificed his children and loved ones on this path. He was not afraid of being martyred on the path of God and in order to save the lives of God’s servants. However, following this bitter, tragic event which has taken place within the borders of the Islamic Republic, we believe it is our duty to take revenge.”
From The New York Post:
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard also said Haniyeh was killed at his Tehran residence.
“Early this morning, the residence of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran was struck, resulting in his and one of his bodyguards’ martyrdom. The cause is under investigation and will be announced soon,” the Revolutionary Guard said.
So far, no one has come forward to claim responsibility for the killing, though Israel has vowed to eliminate Haniyeh and other Hamas leaders following the terror group’s Oct. 7 attack on the Jewish state in which 1,200 people were slaughtered and 250 were kidnapped.
No country has claimed responsibility for the killing.
