McCarthy Takes Shot At Pelosi, Says He Doesn’t Believe In The ‘Theatrics Of Tearing Up Speeches’

By Eric Bolling Staff

On Tuesday, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) took a shot at his predecessor in a video in which he explains why he does not intend to tear up his copy of President Biden’s speech following Tuesday night’s State of the Union address.

McCarthy’s comments were in reference to former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), who stood and ripped up her copy of former President Donald Trump’s 2020 State of the Union speech. McCarthy said he doesn’t believe in stooping to such “theatrics.”

“A lot of people have been asking if I’m planning on ripping up President Biden’s speech tonight. Here’s my answer,” McCarthy tweeted along with a video clip.

“You know, I don’t believe in the theatrics of tearing up speeches,” McCarthy said. “I respect the other side. I can disagree on policy, but I want to make sure this country is stronger, economically sound, energy independent, secure, and accountable.”

In 2020, then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) sparked outrage when she ripped up her copy of former President Trump’s State of the Union speech.

Then-White House social media director Dan Scavino tweeted in response, “Nancy Pelosi destroyed a historical record tonight at #SOTU. The speech she ripped up was a one-of-a-kind record, signed by POTUS and full of stories of Bravery, Heroism and Patriotism. It belonged to the AMERICAN PEOPLE, not to her. What a disgusting display of raw partisanship!”
