South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem says she’s “shocked” with the backlash over country musician Jason Aldean’s hit song Try That in a Small Town; “I was so impressed with the song,” Noem said in a video.

She even says Aldean can play on her front lawn.

“Good morning everybody. I was just getting in the car to head to a meeting and I was thinking about something I posted on my social media on May 24th. It was about a new song that had just been released that my friend Neil Thrasher helped write, but it was by Jason Aldean.”

“I was so impressed with the song because it talked about the value of small towns and how we have our priorities right. And when I posted on my social media, I talked about that I hoped the video would be shot in South Dakota because that is our way of life here.”

“I am shocked by what I am seeing in this country with people attempting to cancel this song and cancel Jason and his beliefs. Him and Brittany (his wife) are outspoken about their love for law and order and for their love of this country, and I’m just grateful for them.”

“I think a lot of times people who go out and fight everyday on these important issues and have an opinion and remember the freedom and liberty that this country was founded on get persecuted from it. And we’re seeing that with the Aldean’s right now and the songwriters that worked so hard on this.”

“I just want them to know that we support them, we love them, and thank you for writing a song that America can get behind. Keep singing and keep playing, and if you want to come to South Dakota I’ll let you play anywhere.

“We’ll facilitate it, and I know you are coming in August, but if you want to come sing it on the Governor’s Residence front lawn, we’ll do it proudly.”

Conservatives have rallied around Aldean in the wake of the attempts to cancel him; Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former President Donald Trump also shared support on social media.

“When the media attacks you, you’re doing something right,” the Florida governor wrote on Twitter. “@Jason_Aldean has nothing to apologize for,” DeSantis tweeted.

“Jason Aldean is a fantastic guy who just came out with a great new song. Support Jason all the way. MAGA!!!” Trump shared on TRUTH Social.
