Multiple media outlets are reporting the cash for Iran has been refrozen…
According to a report from The Daily Mail, the U.S. and Qatar will walk back the $6 billion dollars offered to Iran as part of a hostage exchange deal last month.
Iran is reportedly strongly connected to the horrific Hamas terror attacks in Israel.
From The Daily Mail:
A Treasury Department official, Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo, briefed House Democrats on the decision Thursday, the Washington Post reported.
News of the planned change came hours after Biden issued his first public warning to Iran since the Hamas attack on Israel, after the administration spent consecutive days defending the arrangement even while acknowledging Iran’s longstanding support for Hamas and other proxies.
‘We’ve ‘made it clear to the Iranians: Be careful,’ Biden said at a meeting with Jewish leaders at the White House Wednesday.
Speaking in Tel Aviv on his visit to Israel, Secretary of State Antony Blinken defended the arrangement that transferred the Iranian funds from South Korea to Qatar for oversight, when asked specifically about the report. He said the arrangement was done ‘pursuant to an arrangement established by the previous administration.’
‘None of the funds that have now gone to Qatar have actually been spent or accessed by Iran in any way,’ Blinken said at a press conference. He did not say any new policy had been reached for the funds, which are limited to ‘humanitarian’ reasons like food and medicine.
John Kirby stopped short of confirming the reports of the frozen funds during Thursday’s White House press briefing.
