A large number of conservatives are not happy…
House Speaker Mike Johnson dragged the $1.2 trillion dollar government funding bill across the finish line on Friday — now it’s off to the Senate. But members of Congress to Johnson’s right aren’t too thrilled with the “compromises” made in order to get the spending package passed.
Just 101 Republicans supported the measure, falling short of a majority of the GOP conference.
Now, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has filed a motion to oust Speaker Johnson.
“It’s more of a warning and a pink slip,” Greene told reporters after filing the motion. “There’s not a time limit on this, it doesn’t have to be forced… But I’m not saying that it won’t happen in two weeks, or it won’t happen.”
From The New York Post:
Greene (R-Ga.) made the move as the House prepared to pass a partial government spending bill to avert a looming midnight shutdown — and less than five months after House Republicans ousted Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) for passing an earlier federal funding measure.
Another source told The Post that Greene would have to announce her motion at one of the chamber’s microphones and was likely to get gaveled away from it beforehand.
Hardline House Republicans erupted at Johnson for dropping the 1,012-page bill in the early hours of Thursday morning — less than 48 hours before the partial government shutdown on March 22 — but had played coy when asked by the press whether the move would prompt the speaker’s ouster.
Eight Republicans led by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) voted with every House Democrat to oust McCarthy on Oct. 3 and the former speaker resigned from Congress two months later.
