According to a NEWSMAX report, President Biden had a call with Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday in an attempt to mend fences after Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer called for Bibi’s ouster on the Senate floor last week.
Biden was also caught on a hot mic saying Bibi needed a “come to Jesus” moment, implying Israel’s campaign in Gaza has gone too far.
From NEWSMAX:
The call comes after Republicans in Washington and Israeli officials were quick to express outrage after Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer sharply criticized Netanyahu’s handling of the war in Gaza and called for Israel to hold new elections. They accused the Democrat leader of breaking the unwritten rule against interfering in a close ally’s electoral politics.
Biden hasn’t endorsed Schumer’s call for election but said he thought he gave a “good speech” that reflected the concerns of many Americans.
Bibi called Schumer’s comments “totally inappropriate.”
“I think what he said is totally inappropriate. It’s inappropriate to go to a sister democracy and try to replace the elected leadership there,” Netanyahu told CNN.
“That’s something the Israeli public does on its own. We are not a banana republic,” he said. Instead, efforts should be focused on “bringing down the Hamas tyranny,” Netanyahu added.
President Joe Biden will speak to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, according to a person familiar with the matter, after relations were strained further by criticism from the top Senate Democrat. https://t.co/0bUkoelGar
